Nicosia: Nearly one in four internet users in Cyprus pays for streaming services, a figure that places the country below the European Union average in 2025 regarding paid subscriptions for films, series, or sports content.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the share of Cypriot internet users with paid streaming subscriptions was 26.97%, while the EU average stood at 32.7%. Music streaming services were less popular among Cypriot users, with only 11.36% opting for paid subscriptions, in contrast to 23% across the EU.
Paid subscriptions for online news websites, newspapers, or magazines were held by just 2.77% of internet users in Cyprus, compared to an EU average of 7.2%. In terms of video game streaming services, Cyprus had a share of 5.89%, which was relatively close to the EU's 6.1%.
At the Member State level, Ireland and Denmark led in streaming service subscriptions for films, series, or sports content, with shares of 63.9% and 61.1% respectively. The Netherlands followed closely with 59.2%. Conversely, Bulgaria recorded the lowest share, with only 9.3% of internet users subscribing to such services. Slovenia, Latvia, and Lithuania also reported lower shares, at 13.7%, 16.7%, and 17.4% respectively.
