Nicosia: The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 13.2% to 29,367 in January-June 2026, from 25,954 in January-June 2025, according to data published by the Statistical Service.
According to Cyprus News Agency, passenger saloon cars increased to 22,597 from 20,004 in January-June 2025, marking a rise of 13%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 7,245 or 32.1% were new and 15,352 or 67.9% were used cars. However, rental cars in particular recorded a decline of 11.8%, dropping from 2,820 to 2,487.
CyStat reported a decrease in the share of petrol-powered passenger cars to 35.2% in January-June 2026 from 43.6% in the corresponding period of the previous year. The share of diesel-powered cars also decreased slightly to 8.2% in 2026 from 8.6% in 2025. In contrast, the share of electric cars increased marginally to 4.9% from 4.8%, and hybrid cars saw a rise from 43% to 51.7%.
The registration of motor coaches and buses saw an increase to 111 in January-June 2026, up from 78 in the same period of 2025. Goods conveyance vehicles rose by 14.9% to 3,510, compared to 3,055 in the previous year. Specifically, light goods vehicles increased by 12.9% to 2,795, road tractors (units of trailers) by 18.4% to 135, heavy goods vehicles by 22.3% to 423, and rental vehicles by 31.9% to 157.
While registrations of mopeds of less than 50cc decreased to 77 from 112 in the same period of the previous year, motorcycles increased by 13.4% to 2,681 in January-June 2026, compared to 2,364 in 2025.
In June 2026 alone, the total registrations of motor vehicles numbered 5,624, recording an increase of 13.8% compared to 4,942 in June 2025. Passenger saloon cars registered a rise of 14.8% to 4,338, from 3,780 in June 2025.
