Modern Supervision and Investor Protection Among Priorities, New CySEC Chairman Says

Nicosia: Ensuring an effective and modern supervision, strengthening investor protection, and promoting transparency, innovation, and sustainable development in the capital market will be among our priorities, the new Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), George Karatzias, has said, according to a press release issued by the Commission.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Karatzias emphasized that CySEC's role is becoming increasingly important in maintaining investor confidence and enhancing Cyprus' international credibility. He stated, "CySEC stands at the forefront of safeguarding market transparency, integrity, and the orderly functioning of the financial markets," highlighting the Commission's pivotal role in an evolving environment with new challenges and opportunities.

Karatzias expressed his awareness of the responsibilities involved in his new role and thanked the President of the Republic, the Minister of Finance, and the Council of Ministers for their confidence in him. He committed to working closely with the Vice Chairman, Board members, and CySEC staff to bolster the institution and maintain the credibility of the Cypriot capital market.

He takes over as Chairman following his appointment by the Council of Ministers, with Loukas Lagoudis as Vice Chairman and Andrea Moundis Savvides as a Board member. Karatzias was previously Vice Chairman of CySEC from September 2021 to April 2024 and an Executive Member of the Central Bank of Cyprus's Board of Directors from May 2024 until his current appointment.

Loukas Lagoudis previously served as a non-executive member of the CySEC Board from October 2024 until his appointment as Vice Chairman on September 15, 2026.
