Agriculture Ministry’s Permanent Director, Andreas Gregoriou, has expressed the government’s determination to support the agriculture sector pointing out that the Common Agriculture Policy 2023-2027 will play a decisive role to this direction with the total funding to be estimated at 454 million euro.
Gregoriou said that that the Strategic Plan includes measures that promote the sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural sector, while at the same time, they aim to alleviate environmental problems and address climate change.
Speaking at an event on Friday at the village of Argaka, Paphos, Gregoriou said that the aim is to support rural communities, so that they remain vibrant centers of economic, social and cultural development, combining agriculture, tourism and the protection of the natural environment.
Gregoriou also said that although the agricultural sector represents, in numbers, a small part of the Gross National Product, it has a significant influence on the other sectors of the economy, thus multiplying its value.
In his address he also referred to the difficulties the sector is faced with due to the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the energy and food crisis. Gregoriou said that the Ministry introduced programmes to support the farmers.
