Copenhagen: Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, will participate in the Informal Meeting of EU Agriculture Ministers, organised by Denmark which currently holds the Presidency of the EU Council, which is taking place in Copenhagen on September 7 to 9.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Council’s deliberations will focus on strengthening competitiveness and accelerating the green transition of the EU agri-food sector, an area in which Denmark has undertaken significant initiatives. Ministers will be invited to discuss actions to promote innovation and investment in agriculture, while ensuring access to affordable and nutritious food for European consumers.
The meeting will also examine potential additional tools to support farmers in the green transition, as well as ways to further simplify the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy, with particular emphasis on the upcoming CAP period 2028-2034.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Panayiotou will hold bilateral meetings to discuss, among others, the proposals for the new 2028-2034 CAP, the need to support farmers, developments in agri-food trade, and the planning and priorities of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
