Migration Minister Ioannides to Attend MED5 Meeting in Malta

Valletta: Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection Nicholas Ioannides is set to travel to Malta this Friday to participate in the 9th MED5 meeting on migration, which will be held over two days, Friday and Saturday.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the meeting will include a special focus on preparations for the Cypriot EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2026. The Presidency’s working program is a significant agenda item, and Ioannides is expected to outline the key priorities for Cyprus, particularly in the migration sector. His presentation will emphasize the timely and comprehensive implementation of the Pact, improving the external aspect of returns, and supporting frontline member states.

Additionally, Ioannides will conduct bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the conference. These discussions aim to deepen cooperation on migration issues and provide detailed briefings on the upcoming priorities of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency.

The MED5 meeting will see participation from the relevant Ministers of Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, and Malta.
