Middle East Developments to Influence Greece-Cyprus Strategy, President Asserts

Nicosia: Developments in the Middle East will affect the way Greece, Cyprus, and other like-minded countries approach the situation in the region, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday. President Christodoulides was speaking at the beginning of a meeting he had with a delegation of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides addressed the AHI delegation, noting that they are visiting Cyprus and the region “in very interesting times.” He emphasized that during the meeting, they would discuss “the developments, which will not only influence or affect our region, but also the United States and the way that Greece and Cyprus and like-minded countries in the region and at international level should approach,” the situation in the region.

The AHI delegation consisted of its President, Nick Laryngakis, and a group of American students visiting Cyprus as part of an annual AHI program.

Since 2015, the European Week of Sport and its #BeActive campaign have encouraged active lifestyles across Europe, reaching 42 countries and regions and involving over 103 million participants in more than 353,000 events. Taking place again this year from 23 to 30 September 2025, thousands of awareness-raising and on-the-ground events will be organised across participating countries. Applications are also open for the new #BeActive EU Sport Awards, which recognise and celebrate projects across the continent encouraging sport and physical activity. The call will close on 24 September.
