Premier Giorgia Meloni is to tour Italy’s often troubled and crime- and drug-hit peripheries, an anti-mafia priest nearly killed for his campaigns against drugs said on Wednesday.
He said the PM “has promised that she will make a tour in the peripheries, when and how I do not know but she has promised that she will come: I have seen her very convinced and I believe that the citizens of these territories need to see a State of proximity”, said Don Antonio Coluccia, a priest who was attacked yesterday in Tor Bella Monaca in Rome, after his meeting with the Prime Minister.
A man believed to be linked to drug rackets aimed his scooter at the activist priest but the cleric’s police escort pushed him out of the way and took the hit.
The man has been charged with attempted murder.
