Ledra Palace: An information meeting on Energy Management Systems, a project funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, was held on Wednesday at Ledra Palace. The meeting, which aimed to promote energy efficiency and sustainability, was attended by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot businessmen and speakers referred to studies, including Cypriot companies that have achieved ISO 50001 certification for efficient energy management.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in his welcome address, Stefan Simosas, Head of Cooperation of the European Union Program Support Office in Nicosia, highlighted the global challenge of accessing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy, emphasizing its importance for private companies. He stated that by introducing an Energy Management System, companies can enhance their market competitiveness while contributing to a sustainable future.
Simosas further indicated that such systems could benefit the entirety of Cyprus, encouraging cooperation between companies from both communities. He noted the European Union’s role in promoting these systems to improve energy efficiency and aid in Europe’s energy transition.
Jakhongir Khaydarov, Head of UNDP Cyprus, underscored the significance of energy efficiency in relation to both environmental and economic factors, pointing out the potential for cost savings and increased resilience. He advocated for the adoption of energy management systems to reduce consumption and foster improvements, stressing the importance of collaboration between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sectors for building trust and long-term cooperation.
The EU-funded LIF Project is backing the introduction of Energy Management Systems in seven areas of the Turkish Cypriot community as part of ongoing efforts to enhance energy performance and efficiency.
