Media Cooperation Highlighted at China-Cyprus-Europe Forum Declaration

Nicosia: The media of China, Cyprus, and Europe need to adopt a more open, reasonable, and responsible attitude, strengthen cooperation, build consensus, and pool efforts to promote the common values of humanity and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity, a Declaration of the China-Cyprus-Europe Media Forum, released following the Forum’s conclusion on October 22, said.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, while in 2026, China and Cyprus will celebrate the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of their strategic partnership. Additionally, Cyprus will assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026.

Against this background, in October 2025, representatives from the media, governments, universities, think tanks, and enterprises of China, Cyprus, and European countries gathered in Nicosia for the China-Cyprus-Europe Media Forum. The event was themed ‘Era of Great Transformation: A Shared Future for Humanity-Deepening Media Exchanges and Cooperation, and Jointly Shaping a Bright Future for China-Cyprus and China-Europe Relations’. Participants held in-depth discussions on topics including ‘Media Interactions and Cooperation Boost the Development of China-Cyprus and China-Europe Relations’, ‘Media’s Shared Social and International Responsibilities in the Era of Great Transformation’, and ‘Media Development with AI Empowerment: Cooperation and Regulation’.

The declaration highlighted the belief that in a world fraught with turbulence and transformation, humanity shares a common future and must work together to face challenges and improve the world. It emphasized the extensive common interests and values shared by China and Cyprus media, stressing the importance of mutual respect, trust, openness, cooperation, and achieving win-win outcomes.

It was noted that the media act as recorders of the times, communicators of mutual understanding, and promoters of inter-civilization dialogue. Amid profound global changes and a complex public opinion environment, the media of China, Cyprus, and Europe must strengthen cooperation, build consensus, and pool efforts to promote common values and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.

In terms of deepening media interactions and cooperation, the Forum parties expressed that the media should actively build China-Cyprus and China-EU relations, enhance mutual trust and understanding, foster consensus, and create a sound foundation of public support for steady bilateral relations growth.

Regarding social and international responsibilities, the Forum recognized a broad consensus among China and Cyprus media on adhering to truthfulness, objectivity, fairness, and serving the public interest. The media are expected to prioritize social responsibility and public interest by fostering a reasonable public opinion environment, preventing information fragmentation, social polarization, and divisive narratives, and strengthening society’s harmony.

In terms of promoting AI-driven media development, the Forum acknowledged the empowerment of media growth through AI while stressing the need for regulation to ensure safety and compliance. The media are expected to explore active AI applications in journalism and adhere to journalistic ethics and safety standards, preventing algorithmic bias and information manipulation.

Finally, the Forum called for open, inclusive, and reasonable global media cooperation, opposing division and information barriers. By strengthening cooperation based on truth, reason, and goodwill, the media can contribute to world peace and human progress, embodying the shared vision and responsibility of all forum participants. This Declaration marks a new starting point for deepening exchanges, expanding cooperation, and opening a new chapter in China-Cyprus-Europe media collaboration.
