Souni-zanatzia: There is massive destruction in the villages of Souni and Zanatzia, as reported by Community Leader Nikos Vikis. The wildfire, which ignited on Wednesday, spread through several villages in the Limassol district, leaving the surrounding forest charred.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Vikis mentioned that multiple houses have been reduced to ashes. He emphasized the urgent need to assess the damage comprehensively to aid the affected residents. Vikis revealed that he was in contact with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, earlier that morning to discuss the crisis.
Vikis stated that the community evacuated independently and worked throughout the night to extinguish the flames. Despite their efforts, the Fire Department reported that a new fire front emerged on Thursday in Zanatzia.
The police have announced road closures due to the fire, affecting routes between Trimiklini – Lania – Alassa, Alassa – Lofou, Kantou – Kyvides, and Ayios Ambrosios – Vouni. They advised drivers traveling from Limassol to Troodos to use the Palodia – Paramytha – Gerasa – Kalo Chorio – Agros road, and from Troodos to Limassol, the Saittas – Aghios Mamas – Apaisia – Korfi road remains accessible.
