Loans Fall by Pound 68.7m in July, Deposits Rise by Pound 562.3m

Nicosia: Total loans in Cyprus recorded a net decrease of pound 68.7 million in July compared with the previous month, mainly due to loan repayments of pound 90 million by residents of other euro area member states. Total deposits, meanwhile, recorded a net increase of pound 562.3 million compared with June 2026, driven by a pound 603.2 million rise in deposits from Cyprus residents.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the net decrease in total loans in July followed a net increase of pound 499.4 million in June. The outstanding amount of total loans stood at pound 28.3 billion at the end of July.

The annual growth rate of total loans slowed to 11.1%, from 11.6% in June 2026. Loans to Cyprus residents increased by pound 1.8 million, the CBC said. More specifically, loans to households rose by pound 65.7 million, while loans to non-financial corporations decreased by pound 79.6 million. Loans to all other domestic sectors increased by a combined pound 15.8 million.

Total deposits recorded a net increase of pound 562.3 million in July 2026, compared with a net increase of pound 601.2 million in June, according to the CBC. Their annual growth rate accelerated to 6.2%, from 5.0% in June. The outstanding amount of total deposits reached pound 59.2 billion at the end of July.

Deposits from Cyprus residents increased by pound 603.2 million. Household deposits rose by pound 195.7 million, while deposits from non-financial corporations increased by pound 257.1 million. Deposits from all other domestic sectors rose by a combined pound 150.4 million.
