Limassol to Host 5th Thalassa Festival Highlighting Blue Economy

Limassol:The 5th 'Thalassa 2026' Festival will be held on October 10 in Limassol, aiming to bring the public closer to the sea and emphasize the importance of the blue economy.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis, speaking at a press conference alongside Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis, announced that the Festival will begin at 900 am, and will be officially opened at 1000 am by President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the Festival's goal to educate the public, particularly young people, about the sea as a source of knowledge, studies, and professional interests, beyond just entertainment. She noted that Cyprus hosts one of the largest commercial fleets globally, yet the public lacks awareness of maritime opportunities.

The Festival will feature participation from over 30 public and private entities involved in navigation and maritime activities. Hadjimanolis emphasized the focus on engaging the new generation with the dynamic sector of the blue economy.

The opening ceremony will include vessels from various maritime bodies, including the Maritime Administration of the National Guard and the Cyprus Port Authority. Hadjimanolis invited all citizens to experience the Festival, describing it as a day dedicated to the sea.

Mayor Yiannis Armeftis remarked that the Festival, initiated five years ago, holds special significance for Limassol. He stated that the Blue Economy, along with research and marine environment protection, opens new opportunities for the future. The Municipality views such events as a platform to increase public respect and responsibility towards the sea.
