Limassol: Approximately 20 teams continue registering the damages caused in the mountainous area of Limassol by the destructive wildfire, said Limassol Deputy District Officer Elektra Panayiotou. Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), she said that the goal is to complete the work by tomorrow, Tuesday. At the same time, she urged all those who have not yet called to report their property damages to do so as soon as possible.
According to Cyprus News Agency, calls have been received regarding damages in 15 communities, affecting 238 residences and 124 vehicles. Specifically, 100 homes are in Souni, 36 in Agios Therapon, 27 in Lofou, 23 in Vouni, and 13 in Vasa Kilaniou, while damages to fewer than ten homes have been recorded in the remaining communities.
In response to remarks that community leaders refer to a higher number of damaged residences, Panayiotou clarified that the figures correspond to the reports received so far by the District Administration and that it is estimated that there are still people who have not contacted to report their damages. “Our teams are discovering other houses that the owners have not informed us about, and they are registering those as well,” she said, adding that “we have set a goal to complete the registrations by tomorrow.”
She also stated that there are 18 teams from the District Administration working for this purpose, and she thanked the Limassol District Administration, which today provided five personnel to assist with the efforts. When all claims are filed, she continued, “an assessment will be made by us in cooperation with the Technical Services of the Ministry of Interior” and urged all those who have not yet called to do so as soon as possible.
At the same time, the Deputy District Officer of Limassol noted that, following yesterday’s address by the President of the Republic, many individuals who have already submitted their claims are calling the District Administration offices, seeking compensation.
