Lebanese Foreign Minister Expresses Gratitude to Cyprus President for Support

Nicosia: President Nikos Christodoulides and Lebanon's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raggi, engaged in discussions emphasizing the robust ties between Cyprus and Lebanon during a meeting at the Presidential Palace. Raggi expressed profound gratitude for Cyprus's support, stating, "We thank you personally and the Republic of Cyprus for everything you are doing for us. We know what you are doing for us."

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides welcomed Raggi's participation at the Republic's diplomatic missions conference, highlighting the significance Cyprus places on its relationship with Lebanon. He affirmed that Lebanon's territorial integrity and sovereignty are priorities for Cyprus, paralleling Lebanon's own priorities. The President emphasized his close, cooperative relationship with Lebanon's President, underscoring their frequent discussions to enhance bilateral relations, with a strong political will to advance these ties further.

Christodoulides announced Cyprus's commitment, within the EU framework, to initiate negotiations for a comprehensive strategic agreement between the EU and Lebanon. He pointed to previous initiatives with Jordan and Egypt as models for future cooperation. The President also noted his communications with the President of the European Commission, advocating for swift progress in EU-Lebanon relations, referencing a historic visit to Lebanon with the Commission President in 2024.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Raggi extended greetings from President Joseph Aoun, describing Christodoulides as a "very good, close friend" and expressed appreciation for the support from both Cyprus and the EU. Raggi praised Cyprus's EU Council Presidency, acknowledging the positive impacts on Europe and the Mediterranean.

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis remarked on the unprecedented closeness of Cyprus-Lebanon relations, especially under President Aoun's tenure. Letymbiotis affirmed Cyprus's unwavering support for Lebanon in various international forums, highlighting Cyprus's leadership in promoting security and stability in Lebanon. He reiterated Cyprus's practical support for Lebanon, a key regional partner, emphasizing regional security and stability as paramount priorities.
