ANKARA: Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah appointed Sheikh Mohammad Sabah al-Sabah on Thursday as the country’s new prime minister, the state news agency KUNA reported.

Sheikh Mohammed has been assigned to nominate members of the new government, KUNA said, citing a decree issued by the emir.

Thursday’s appointment was the first by Sheikh Mishal since he became the country’s ruler last month following the death of Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

Born in 1955, Sheikh Mohammad had previously served as foreign minister and state minister for foreign affairs.
