Kombos to Address Cyprus-Turkey Gas Pipeline Dispute at EU Council

Accra:Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos plans to discuss the contentious "Memorandum of Understanding" between Turkey and a secessionist entity in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus regarding an undersea natural gas pipeline at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos will participate in the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council on Monday, October 12, in Luxembourg. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release on Sunday confirming his attendance.

The Council's agenda includes discussions on Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, its hybrid campaign against the EU, and the situation in the Middle East. The strategic importance of EU enlargement for European security will also be highlighted.

During the meeting, Kombos intends to raise concerns about the illegal agreement between Turkey and the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus concerning the pipeline project. An informal working breakfast is also scheduled before the Council's proceedings to address Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference and strategic communication initiatives.
