Nicosia: Security and migration issues, regional developments and the constructive role of Cyprus in the region were discussed on Friday between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, and European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, who is in Nicosia for contacts.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos, in a post on ‘X’ after the meeting, which took place in the presence of Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, thanked Brunner ‘for the engaging and productive discussion on key issues on our common European agenda in the areas of security and migration’. The Minister also notes that Cyprus’ accession to the Schengen area was ‘a key priority’ for the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and that the European Commission’s vital support and guidance ‘is key to this significant common aim that will be mutually beneficial’ for Cyprus and all EU citizens.

According to Kombos, discussion also focused on the implementation of the EU Migration and Asylum Pact, the upcoming EU Internal Security Strategy, and the latest regional developments, especially in Syria ‘and Cyprus’ constructive role’. Kombos also said he was ‘looking forward to working closely together’ with the Commissioner also ahead of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
