Limassol: The Italian Navy FREMM (European Multi-Mission Frigate) “Luigi Rizzo” has docked in Limassol for a scheduled port visit, as announced by the Embassy of Italy in Cyprus. The frigate, a vital component of the Italian Navy’s Operation ‘Mediterraneo Sicuro’, will remain in the city for several days, contributing to maritime safety and surveillance in the region.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the ITS “Luigi Rizzo” serves as the flagship of the mission, which is designed to enhance cooperation and naval diplomacy while promoting the stability of the Mediterranean Sea. The vessel, a General-Purpose warship, was commissioned in December 2017 and is the sixth of ten FREMM frigates planned for the Italian Navy. It is equipped with advanced platform and combat systems that adhere to modern military and civil standards.
The embassy also noted that on December 6th, during the celebration of St. Nicholas, patron saint of the Cypriot Navy, the ITS “Luigi Rizzo” will be visible from land as it anchors in front
of Limassol. The Italian Ambassador to Cyprus, Federica Ferrari Bravo, is expected to participate in the festivities at the ‘Lt. General Evangelos Florakis’ Naval Base in Mari.
