Limassol: Investigations into the causes of the deadly fires in the Limassol district are continuing, Police Spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou told CNA.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Police announced that all information forwarded to them regarding the fires that broke out across Cyprus in recent days is being investigated. Lambrianidou stated that the investigation process is ongoing.
When asked about statements made by Chief Fire Officer Nicos Logginos regarding individuals who have attempted to start fires in various locations in Cyprus, Lambrianidou mentioned that the information has been forwarded to the police. Furthermore, the Morphou CID is investigating the Chief Fire Officer’s report of an attempted arson in the Orounda area.
Lambrianidou also addressed questions about arrests related to police patrols in the fire-affected areas, stating that no arrests had been made in connection with the fires, as there is no information allowing for such actions at this time. Additionally, there have been no arrests connected to incidents of looting or theft in damaged properties.
The police have called on the public to provide any information or evidence related to the fires immediately. In a statement issued on Friday, the Police noted they would evaluate all cases recorded by mobile speed cameras during the period of the fires in the affected and neighboring areas of Limassol, with plans to send these cases to the Attorney General of the Republic after evaluation.
It was also reminded that, as of Thursday, instructions were given by the Police leadership not to use mobile speed cameras throughout the district of Limassol until Monday, July 28, due to the fire situation.
