Interior Minister Attends High-Level Conference on Affordable Housing in Copenhagen

Copenhagen: Interior Minister, Constantinos Ioannou, will attend a high-level conference on affordable housing, organized by the Danish EU Presidency on 29-30 September, in Copenhagen. European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen, will also attend, along with Ministers responsible for housing and EU officials.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the focus of the conference is on prospects of a European housing strategy emphasizing ways to increase available, affordable, and sustainable houses. The potential role of local authorities will also be examined during the conference. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss best practices to tackle the lack of housing on a national level.

Minister Ioannou will present the comprehensive housing policy in Cyprus and schemes launched by the Government, aiming to increase the houses that are available, and options for affordable housing, the announcement goes on. The Minister will also underline the need for better coordination on an EU level and the need for funding tools for member states, so that they are able to implement housing schemes based on their needs and special characteristics.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Ioannou will meet with Dutch Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning, Mona Keijzer.
