Nicosia: Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos concluded his round of contacts in New York on Friday, wrapping up an intensive week of diplomacy at the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Week.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos held more than 40 bilateral meetings with counterparts from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Gulf, Central Asia, Asia, and Latin America, aimed at deepening ties and creating new avenues of cooperation with countries where regular contact has been limited.
In addition to the important cooperation agreement signed with Saudi Arabia, Kombos also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kenya in the field of agriculture. The deal lays the foundation for collaboration on sustainable and smart farming, innovation, farmer training, and support for young people and women in the agricultural sector.
The Cypriot minister also participated in three trilateral formats alongside Greece, meeting with Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. These talks, he said, underscored Cyprus’ role in promoting regional stability and advancing practical cooperation in energy, security, and economic development.
Beyond formal diplomacy, Kombos accompanied President Nikos Christodoulides in bilateral meetings throughout the week and attended a working lunch hosted by the President for the Permanent Representatives of the UN Security Council’s five permanent members.
The Foreign Minister also engaged with the Cypriot diaspora in the United States, attending community events and the traditional dinner hosted in honor of the President by the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations.
