?icosia Hosts Informal EU High-Level Meeting Ahead of Cyprus Presidency

?icosia: An informal high-level meeting comprising Permanent Secretaries, Secretaries-General, and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs from EU countries is taking place in Nicosia on Tuesday. This meeting is in preparation for the Cyprus EU Presidency, set to begin on January 1st, 2026.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release from the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU stated that delegations were treated to a tour of the Leventis Gallery in Nicosia on Monday afternoon. The meeting itself is scheduled to commence on Tuesday morning at Nicosia City Hall.

During the meeting, the priorities for the Cyprus Presidency will be outlined. The discussions will focus on the theme ‘Addressing opportunities and challenges for the European Union, in the current geopolitical environment, in its borders and beyond’. A second session will cover ‘Cooperation between the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the Member States: Joint efforts in managing geopolitical challenges’.

Following the meeting, the delegations will be given an opportunity to explore the historic old city of Nicosia.
