House President to participate in WPL Summit in Athens

President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, in her capacity as Ambassador of the Women Political Leaders (WPL) network on behalf of the House of Representatives, will participate in the WPL Summit entitled “Democracy for the 21st Century” that will take place in Athens. The Summit is under the auspices of President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and will be held between March 19 and 21, 2024.

A press release by the the Parliament says that the Summit will be addressed by women leaders of various countries and officials of international organisations. Demetriou will be the keynote speaker at the round table discussion on “Reinventing Leadership for the 21st Century.”

Delegates will discuss about the opportunities and challenges facing modern democracies around the world as well as the need to adapt to the rapidly changing environment, in the light of the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mass Media. They will also examine the implications of AI on polit
ical decision-making and leadership and ways of using AI for the benefit of democratic governance.

Other issues to be discussed include the importance of strengthening women’s representation in positions of power, with the aim of creating resilient democracies, as well as combating violence against women in politics.
