House President Expresses Solidarity with France and Spain Over Devastating Wildfires

Nicosia: President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou has expressed Cyprus' solidarity with France and Spain over the devastating wildfires affecting the two countries, in separate messages to the presidents of both chambers of their parliaments.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Demetriou referred to the extensive destruction caused by the unprecedented wildfires and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.

In her messages, she said Cyprus, having itself experienced the painful consequences of devastating wildfires only last year, deeply sympathises with the two countries over the suffering and difficulties they are facing.

The House President also said the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires serve as a stark reminder of the effects of the climate crisis and the need to strengthen Europe's collective response to such natural disasters.

She reaffirmed Cyprus' readiness to support any collective effort at European Union level to provide relief to those affected and address the consequences of the wildfires.

Demetriou also conveyed her sincere condolences and solidarity to the victims' families, firefighters and the people of France and Spain, expressing her hope that the fires would be brought under control swiftly and effectively and that all those affected would be able to return safely to their homes.
