Cyprus House President, Annita Demetriou, expressed on Friday her satisfaction over the development of Cyprus` shipping sector and its significant contribution to the country`s GDP.
Demetriou had a meeting with the Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Thomas Kazakos, who, according to a House press release, briefed her on the important role which the Chamber plays in the development of the Cyprus` shipping industry and shipping sector in general, as well as its activities within the society.
Kazakos stressed the improvement of the Cypriot flag status, since it is now among the so called “white lists”. Moreover he elaborated on the structure and the goals of the Chamber, whose primary concern is to defend the legal interests of Cyprus.
As it is noted, the House President expressed satisfaction over Kazakos` initiative to present the Chamber`s task and activities and about Cyprus` internationally recognised position at the shipping sector worldwide, as a small economic actor, with a major potential.
Demetriou and Kazakos also discussed issues related to the attraction of direct investments to Cyprus and the new Cyprus Shipping National Long-Term Strategy “Sea Change 2030”.
