Nicosia: President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, underscored the significant role of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) in addressing the Cyprus issue during a meeting with the AHI delegation. The meeting coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of part of Cyprus, as well as the 20th anniversary of Cyprus’s accession to the European Union. The delegation was led by AHI President and Executive Director, Nick Larigakis.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Demetriou emphasized the enhancement of relations between Cyprus and the United States, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts. She noted the strategic role Cyprus can play in ensuring security and stability in the broader region. Additionally, Demetriou elaborated on the responsibilities of the House of Representatives and provided updates on key issues, including the 2025 state budget discussions.
Larigakis, representing the AHI, marked the institute’s 50-year commitment since its incepti
on following the Turkish invasion, with the Cyprus problem being a persistent priority. He acknowledged the strong state of Cyprus-US relations, asserting that there is potential for further development and strengthening of these ties.
