Cairo: The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, is paying an official visit to Egypt from February 23 until February 26. This visit comes following an invitation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Hanafi Jebali. During her visit, Demetriou will engage in discussions and sign an updated Memorandum of Cooperation between the two parliaments.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during her stay in Cairo, Demetriou will hold separate meetings with Hanafi Jebali, the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, and Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq, the President of the Senate of Egypt. This visit aims to strengthen parliamentary ties and enhance cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt.
The visit also includes a meeting with Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa. This meeting signifies the importance of fostering relationships beyond political spheres, encompassing religious and cultural dimensions.
Additionally, Demetriou and the accompanying parliamentary delegation will visit institutions of the Greek community in Egypt. These visits will involve interactions with community representatives, highlighting the cultural and historical connections between the two nations.
Demetriou is accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, which includes MPs George Karoullas, Christos Christofides, and Pavlos Mylonas, as well as high-ranking officials from the Parliament. The delegation is scheduled to return to Cyprus on Wednesday afternoon.
