“Historic” Cyprus-India Relations Gain Strategic Depth, Nicosia Says

Nicosia: Cyprus' 'historic' relationship with India was acquiring strategic depth that translates into tangible results, Nicosia said on Wednesday. According to Cyprus News Agency, the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus shared a message on X, accompanied by a short video spot, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between Cyprus and India. The statement emphasized that Cyprus, alongside India-one of the world's largest economies and a strategic partner with a strong international presence-is developing a relationship that creates concrete political, economic, and geopolitical opportunities. The announcement detailed that the upgrading of Cyprus-India relations to a Strategic Partnership enhances political coordination between the two countries and expands cooperation in vital areas such as security, defence, counterterrorism, technology, innovation, shipping, education, and connectivity. Additionally, the post pointed out that this strategic partnership opens new avenues for investment and provi des Cypriot businesses with access to the Indian market. Cyprus is already among the top 10 largest investor countries in India, with its investments having doubled over the past decade. The post further highlighted Cyprus's role as a significant gateway between India and Europe, offering Indian businesses access to the EU single market of over 450 million consumers. The strengthening of the EU-India strategic relationship and the prospects of the IMEC enhance Cyprus's position on the new trade and connectivity map linking India, the Middle East, and Europe. The statement concluded by reiterating that the historic relationship between Cyprus and India is now acquiring strategic depth, resulting in tangible benefits for Cyprus.
