Cyprus on Friday announced 28 more deaths from COVID-19 and 5,472 new cases, recorded between July 29 and August 4. Twenty-three of the deaths, occurred between January 27 and and July 13 and the remaining five in the last week.
According to the Health Ministry, 84,505 tests were carried out with a positivity rate of 6.48%.
The deaths concern 12 men and 16 women, with ages ranging from 54 to 92. This brings the number of deaths from COVID-19 so far to 1,143.
The Ministry said that, 568,383 COVID-19 cases have been recorded so far.
Currently, 71 patients with COVID-19 are being treated in hospital, including ten who are in a serious condition; seven of them are in intensive care units (ICU) and intubated, and three in a high-dependency unit.
Two post-COVID patients continue to be intubated in the ICU.
Total PCR tests in the past seven days was 3,341 with 359 positive results and a positivity rate of 10.75%, while total antigen rapid tests were 81,164 with 5,113 positive results and a positivity rate of 6.3%.
In particular, out of 3 PCR tests carried out through contact tracing one person tested positive. Out of 2,854 PCR tests carried out on a private initiative 269 cases were detected. Another 4,709 people tested positive out of 4,709 rapid antigen tests carried out privately.
A total of 22,208 rapid antigen tests were carried out in the context of Ministry of Health screening programmes detecting 404 cases. These include 12,930 tests in testing units with 262 cases, 793 tests in the National Guard with 20 cases, 5,622 tests in homes for the elderly with 84 positives and 2,863 tests in closed structures with 38 positive results.
