Health Minister pledges to safeguard and improve Gesy

Health Minister, Michael Damianos, pledged to “safeguard and improve” the General Health System (Gesy), in a post on X, on the occasion of the five-year-anniversary since the implementation of the Healthcare System in Cyprus.

Damianos says that Gesy is “undoubtedly one of the most significant social reforms in the history of the Republic of Cyprus” and adds that the goal to safeguard and improve the system, sets the patients at the core of this policy.

Earlier, the Cyprus Federation of Patients’ Associations (OSAK) issued an announcement to commemorate the five-year-anniversary, noting the “important changes” the reform has brought about in Cyprus’ healthcare system, ensuring access to all in high quality health services.

According to data OSAK cites in its announcement, in the five year since Gesy launched, there are 969,722 registered beneficiaries, while 807,331 beneficiaries visited their Personal Doctors, 637,536 beneficiaries have visited Specialist Doctors, 319,259 beneficiaries have visited Radiolo
gy/Diagnostic Centers, 501,035 beneficiaries have undergone laboratory examinations, 318,990 beneficiaries have visited Dentists and 698,650 beneficiaries received medication.

OSAK notes that challenges persist and calls for continuous political support for Gesy.
