Hazardous Weather Conditions Prompt Work Suspension in Cyprus

Nicosia: The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has announced that the Department of Meteorology has issued a red-level warning for hazardous weather conditions affecting certain work activities.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Labour Inspection (DLI) has issued a related announcement, mandating the suspension of certain outdoor work activities today, Wednesday, 13 August 2025. The suspension is specifically in effect from 11:00 to 17:00 and applies to all outdoor heavy and moderate work. Additionally, transportation and delivery activities using two-wheeled vehicles or personal mobility devices, such as motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, scooters, and e-scooters, are prohibited between 12:00 and 16:00.

The red-level warning and the corresponding work suspension are applicable to inland areas, which are defined as areas below 300 meters in altitude and more than 10 kilometers away from the coastline, as well as to higher mountainous regions with altitudes above 1,150 meters. In areas where the warning is not in effect, or for lighter work activities, employers are required to adhere to the measures outlined in the Code of Practice for the Thermal Stress of Workers.

The announcement underscores the importance of implementing the provisions of the revised 2020 edition of the Code of Practice for the Thermal Stress of Workers, especially in response to extremely high temperatures. Employers and workers can find more details on the DLI website under the Thermal Stress section or contact the local District Offices of the Department for further assistance.
