Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices up 1.2% in January

Nicosia: The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose by 1.2% between January 2025 and January 2026, according to data published on Wednesday by the Statistical Service.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the categories Recreation, Sports and Culture (5.8%), Restaurants and Accommodation Services (4.8%), and Educational Services (3.4%) showed the largest increases compared to January 2025. In contrast, the largest drop was observed in the category Clothing and Footwear, which saw a decrease of 6.2%.

Compared with December 2025, the HICP recorded a decrease of 0.3%. Notably, the category Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages experienced a significant increase of 3.7%, while the category Clothing and Footwear faced the largest decrease of 12.1%.

In terms of economic categories, the largest increase compared with January 2025 was observed in Services, which rose by 4.3%. Meanwhile, Energy saw a decrease of 6.5%. Compared with the previous month, there was a notable decrease in Non-Energy Industrial Goods by 3.7%.
