Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices Remains Unchanged in August Compared to Previous Year

Nicosia: The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for August 2025 showed no significant change when compared to August 2024, while it recorded an increase of 0.8% from July 2025.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the categories that experienced the largest positive changes compared to August 2024 were Restaurants and Hotels, which saw a rise of 5.3%, and Recreation and Culture, which increased by 4.9%. Conversely, significant decreases were noted in the categories of Clothing and Footwear, which fell by 7.5%, and Housing, Water Supply, Electricity and Gas, which decreased by 4.0%.

Comparing the figures from July 2025, the most notable changes were observed in Recreation and Culture with an increase of 1.8%, followed by Transport and Restaurants and Hotels, both recording a rise of 1.5%.

For the period from January to August 2025, compared to the same period in the previous year, there were notable increases in Recreation and Culture at 6.6% and Restaurants and Hotels at 5.4%. In contrast, Clothing and Footwear experienced the largest decrease of 5.9%.

The economic category with the largest change compared to August 2024 was Energy, which saw a decrease of 9.1%. Compared to July 2025, the Services category saw the most significant change, with an increase of 1.5%.
