Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis ruled out on Sunday any discussion about the recognition of the Turkish Cypriot puppet regime in Cyprus.
Mitsotakis said in a post on social media after his visit to New York, where he met, among others, with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan that “Greece is not entering into any discussion on the recognition of the pseudo-state.”
Assessing his meeting with the Turkish President, he stressed that “the fact that we are discussing does not mean that we agree on everything” and added that Greece is not bargaining on issues related to sovereignty and sovereign rights.
“We agreed on closer cooperation on migration and for a new meeting of the Supreme Cooperation Council in early 2025,” the Greek Prime Minister concluded.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-M
