Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis resigns

Andreas Mavroyiannis, the Greek Cypriot side’s negotiator for the Cyprus problem has resigned.

Government Spokesman, Marios Pelekanos, asked by CNA regarding a story published in daily newspaper “Politis” on Sunday, confirmed the resignation of Andreas Mavroyiannis.

Pelekanos also confirmed that Mavroyiannis has given a notice before he leaves his position. The resignation will take effect from May 15th.

Asked if the President of the Republic will appoint a new negotiator, Government Spokesman pointed out that the nomination and appointment of a negotiator will be decided by the President as deriving from his powers.
