Athens: "Greece is present, with responsibility and strength, wherever national duty calls," Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated on Wednesday. Speaking at the Hellenic Parliament, Mitsotakis referred to the deployment of two frigates and four F16 Viper aircraft to Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Greek Prime Minister emphasized that the mission is both defensive and peaceful, aimed at preventing threatening actions against Cyprus. He highlighted that the operation is based on bilateral and European solidarity, emphasizing Cyprus as an important part of Hellenism, particularly given its proximity to conflict zones.
Mitsotakis detailed that, in coordination with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, Greece dispatched the frigates "Kimon" and "Psarra" along with the F16 Viper aircraft to Cyprus. He reiterated Greece's commitment to placing its upgraded armed forces at the service of Hellenism globally. "This mission of ours is a defensive and peaceful mission," Mitsotakis noted, underscoring the broader significance of Greece's strengthened military and diplomatic capabilities.
Additionally, Mitsotakis mentioned that Greece's initiative was soon followed by France, and there is potential for Germany and the United Kingdom to participate as well, marking it as a positive development.
