Government’s Efforts for Reforms Will Continue Despite Strikes, Asserts President Christodoulides

Nicosia: No strike will stop the government’s effort for reforms in all sectors, President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated on Wednesday, in response to a question about the ongoing strike in the education sector.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the President emphasized that there has been consultation on the issue, although the essence of the government’s proposal remains unchanged, particularly concerning a draft bill on the evaluation of teachers. He reiterated that while the right to strike is fully respected, it will not hinder the government’s efforts to implement reforms across various sectors. “It is not possible for our teachers not to be evaluated. This issue must be concluded immediately,” he asserted.

President Christodoulides also recalled the previous government’s efforts to raise the issue before the Recovery and Resilience Fund, noting the economic implications involved. He further highlighted the government’s commitment to continue pursuing reforms in all sectors, including proposals for the Law Office, educational reform, and disability issues. “For the first time in all sectors, these reforms need to be made which aim to serve the Cypriot people, the Cypriot citizen, and we will continue in order to modernize, to upgrade the state of 1960,” he emphasized.
