Government stands by Armenian community of Cyprus, President says

The Government stands by the Armenian community of Cyprus, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, said on Friday, addressing the final celebration of the NAREG Schools on the occasion of their 50th anniversary.

“Looking back on the historical path of Armenian education in Cyprus, we cannot help but admire and learn from the fervor and relentless effort of the community of our Armenian fellow citizens, to offer the children and youth of the Community the best possible educational level and at the same time to protect and preserve their traditions, morals and customs”, the President pointed out.

He went on to say that “as a State, we fully and practically support the excellent work carried out by the Armenian schools, and this we will continue to do, through the kind cooperation of the Ministry of Education with the Armenian community in general and with the sole aim of providing that educational level that will equip the young men and women of the community with guarantees for a prosperous future for themselves and for our society in general.”

In addition, President Christodoulides said that he personally and the Government stand by the Armenian community of Cyprus and they will continue to keep the needs for modernisation and upgrading of Armenian schools and the community in general as top priorities.

“The doors of the Presidential Office are always open for you to discuss, to see how we can, through state initiatives, through joint efforts, strengthen your own struggle”, the President of the Republic stated.

In concluding, he congratulated the Armenian community of Cyprus for its “commendable work” in the field of education as well as for its contribution to Cypriot society.
