Nicosia: An annual increase of 1.1% in the number of government employees was recorded in February.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in February 2025, total government employment increased by 599 persons (1.1%) in comparison to the corresponding month of 2024, reaching a total of 55,296 individuals. The employment figures showcased a rise in both the Civil Service and the Educational Service, with increases of 0.2% and 3.8% respectively, while employment in the Security Forces saw a reduction of 0.8%.
For the period from January to February 2025, there was an average increase of 1.0% in total government employment compared to the same period in 2024. In February 2025, the Civil Service employed 11,991 permanent workers, 4,162 with contracts of indefinite duration, 1,381 with contracts of definite duration, and 5,663 hourly paid workers. Permanent employees were the majority in the Civil Service, representing 51.7% of the workforce, while those on contracts of definite duration accounted for the smallest portion at 6.0%.
The Educational Service included 12,461 permanent employees, 946 employees on contracts of indefinite duration, 4,689 on contracts of definite duration, and 155 hourly paid workers. Permanent employees formed the largest group within the Educational Service at 68.3%, with hourly paid workers being the least represented at 0.8%.
In the Security Forces, there were 8,470 permanent employees, 4,362 on contracts of indefinite duration, 268 on contracts of definite duration, and 748 hourly paid workers. Permanent employees constituted the majority at 61.2%, whereas employees on contracts of definite duration formed the smallest group at 1.9%.
