Nicosia: Government budget allocations for research and development (R and D) in Cyprus stood at pound 113.9 per inhabitant in 2025, according to data published by Eurostat on Friday. The total amount reached pound 111.996 million, down from pound 150.610 million in 2024.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the corresponding amount in Cyprus was pound 155.9 per inhabitant in 2024 and pound 69.3 per inhabitant in 2015. At the European Union level, governments allocated an estimated pound 130.2 billion in their budgets to R and D in 2025, under government budget allocations for R and D (GBARD). This amount was equivalent to 0.69% of the EU GDP.
Eurostat data indicates that this represented an increase of 2.4% compared with 2024 when allocations stood at pound 127.144 billion, and an increase of 60.5% compared with 2015, when they amounted to pound 81.138 billion. Government budget allocations for R and D in the EU stood at pound 288.9 per inhabitant in 2025, marking an increase of 57.7% compared with 2015, when they were pound 183.2 per inhabitant.
