Government approves €1.5-million subsidy scheme for photovoltaic systems and E-cars charging stations

The Cyprus Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved a €1.5-million subsidy scheme for the installation of photovoltaic systems in households, the installation of batteries and electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid cars charging stations.

The Ministry of Energy said in a press release that the scheme lies within the government’s efforts to promote electric vehicles and sustainable transport in the context of the transition to green energy.

Apart from photovoltaic systems and the purchase of an E-car charging stations, the scheme also covers the purchase of batteries to store energy generated by the solar panels.

According to the press release, eligible persons are natural persons who own electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid cars.

The subsidy is €750 per KW covering the installation or the extension of an existing photovoltaic system with a maximum amount of €1,500 per vehicle.

Furthermore, the grants amount to €600 for the purchase of an E-car of plug-in hybrid charging station, €450 for the upgrade of a home’s electric installation and €750 per KW for the purchase or installation of a battery with a maximum amount of €2,000.

The scheme is included in the national Recovery and Resilience Fund and is financed by the EU.
