Giorgos Rossides Appointed as Principal Adviser at European Commission’s Internal Audit Service

Brussels: The European Commission has announced the appointment of Giorgos Rossides as Principal Adviser for relations with internal and external stakeholders at the Internal Audit Service (IAS). The IAS plays a crucial role in providing independent advice, opinions, and recommendations on the quality and functioning of internal control systems within the Commission, EU agencies, and other autonomous bodies. The exact date when Rossides will assume his new role is yet to be determined.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Giorgos Rossides brings over 20 years of experience at the European Commission, having developed extensive expertise in various policy areas including data protection, security, home affairs, crisis management, and health. He has been recognized for his leadership during crisis situations, most notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he was instrumental in the delivery of major policy initiatives such as the EU Vaccines Strategy and the European Health Union.

Rossides’ career has been marked by strong leadership abilities, managing large teams under complex and high-pressure conditions. His achievements include overseeing the reform of the EU pharmaceutical legislation and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. His experience in engaging with stakeholders on significant issues, such as the next Multiannual Financial Framework, is expected to be invaluable to the IAS.

A Cypriot national, Rossides currently serves as a Senior Expert at the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (DG HERA). His previous roles include Head of Cabinet to the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, and Member of Cabinet for the European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs. Before joining the Commission, Rossides gained experience working with the United Nations.
