On Tuesday, the last day of his visit to Cyprus, the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, visited Lefkara, in the Larnaca district, where he was given a tour of the village and tasted traditional local sweets.
The German President was welcomed upon his arrival by Lefkara Mayor, Sophocles Sophocleous, who presented him with a Lefkara lace embroidery. He was then given a tour of the village and was informed about its history, traditions and architecture.
He also visited the Church of the Holy Cross, which dates back to the 14th century, and the Handicraft Centre where he watched local women embroider Lefkara lace.
Steinmeier also visited a silversmith’s workshop.
The German President’s visit to Cyprus concluded with a meal hosted by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at a restaurant in the nearby village of Kato Drys.
