Jakarta:According to Cyprus News Agency, the Veterinary Services are moving forward with the official documentation of approximately 3,000 foot-and-mouth disease cases detected during the summer at five livestock farms located in Avgorou, Dromolaxia, Alethriko, Aradippou, and Pentakomo. Director of the Veterinary Services, Christodoulos Pipis, indicated that the affected animals are expected to be culled soon.
Pipis assured that the affected farmers would be compensated in line with measures applied in previous instances. Compensation will cover the livestock and milk, and if the farmers resume their activities, they will receive support for reactivation and any incurred losses.
The detection of these cases occurred during the summer, but official recording was delayed as the Veterinary Services sought clarification from the European Commission. Pipis emphasized that these are not new cases and that the delay was due to the need to address epidemiological, vaccination, and legal concerns related to the farms' locations in relation to the initial cases.
Pipis further explained that the cases will be officially recorded using the detection dates. The owners of the affected farms have been summoned to the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss the situation and the steps to be taken.
