FM Kasoulides travels to Qatar for working visit

Cyprus Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, who will pay Doha a working visit to review and deepen bilateral relations, will also hand over a written message by the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

 

According to a Foreign Ministry press release, Kasoulides travels on Monday to Doha, Qatar where he will pay a working visit and where he will be received by the Emir, to whom he will convey Anastasiades’ written message. Moreover, he will meet with his counterpart of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, with whom he will exchange views on a broad spectrum of issues, focusing on bilateral, regional and international matters.

 

In the framework of their meeting, the two Foreign Ministers, are expected to review the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Qatar, while they will look into ways of deepening them in a broad spectrum of fields.

 

Kasoulides will also brief his counterpart about Nicosia’s positions as regards the next steps in the process towards Cyprus’ reunification.

 

Moreover, the two Ministers will discuss about regional challenges and the latest developments in the countries of the Middle East and the Arab Gulf.

 

Kasoulides will return to Cyprus on October 5.

 

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
