FinMin Set to Participate in Key Eurogroup and ECOFIN Meetings in Brussels

Brussels: Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, will travel to Brussels on Sunday to attend Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings on July 7 and 8.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release from the Ministry of Finance stated that on Monday, July 7, Keravnos will chair the Eurogroup meeting. The agenda includes discussions on the coordination of fiscal policies within the Eurozone and the endorsement of the 2026 fiscal policy statement for the region. The meeting will conclude with the election of the new President of the Eurogroup for the next 2.5 years.

In a broader format involving Finance Ministers from all EU member states, the Eurogroup will exchange views on the main policy aspects of the Digital Euro legislative package. Later, the President of the European Investment Bank will present the Bank’s initiatives related to the Capital Markets Union.

On July 8, Keravnos will participate in the ECOFIN meeting, which will focus on the progress of regulations concerning the Digital Euro. Ministers will also discuss the European Commission’s legislative proposal for revising the securitization framework, aimed at advancing work on the Savings and Investment Union.

ECOFIN will additionally receive updates on the Danish Presidency of the EU and the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility. On Monday evening, Keravnos will join an informal working dinner organized by the Danish Minister of Finance, where discussions will center on managing increased defense expenses and continuing financial support to Ukraine.
