Nicosia: A link on FC Barcelona's website promoting a sports campus in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus has been removed, a source told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), saying diplomatic efforts in this regard appear to have borne fruit.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the link was taken down from the FC Barcelona website and the event was fully cancelled, with no indication as to whether it would be held elsewhere, the same source said. The campus had been scheduled to take place at facilities of an illegal "university", outside the Turkish-occupied part of Nicosia towards Kyrenia.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
