The opening of the cultural exhibition entitled “Fervolites, the lace of Karavas, Cyprus – Our common European heritage”, hosted by MEP Dimitris Papadakis, took place at the European Parliament. According to a statement by the MEP’s office, the exhibition presented the art of the lace “Fervolites”, which the Municipality of Karavas has included in the UNESCO list as an element of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Cyprus. “Fervolites” is a traditional handmade lace exclusively found in the region of Karavas in Cyprus, said Papadakis in his greeting, adding that this unique lace can be found in other countries of Europe, making it a common element of the cultural heritage of the continent. It is added that after congratulating the Municipality of Karavas and Mayor Nikos Hadjistefanou for their hard work and efforts to preserve and promote the cultural traditions of Karavas, the MEP also thanked the Vice President of the European Parliament, Marc Angel, who placed the exhibition under his patronage. The event was attended by Vice-President of the European Parliament, Marc Angel, all Cypriot MEPs, Greek and Austrian MEPs, the Mayor of Karavas, Nikos Hadjistefanou, a delegation of the Municipality of Karavas and the Head of the Permanent Representation of Cyprus in Brussels, Christina Rafti, the statement concludes.
