Cyprus Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides welcomed Eurostat’s data which showed that Cyprus marked the highest decline in unemployment rate, noting that the data highlight the success of the government’s policies.
According to Eurostat, Cyprus unemployment rate fell to 5.2% in July 2021 over 7.9% in the respective period of last year, while Cyprus marked the highest reduction of jobless persons, namely 34.3% year on year compared with 9.4% of the EU average.
Recalling that the poverty risk in Cyprus declined to the lowest level since 2007, Petrides said “these official data show the success of the government’s policy, especially if one considers the economic crisis as a result of the (Covid) pandemic.”
